Charquini
THE PERFECT TRAINING PEAK BEFORE HUAYNA POTOSI
An ideal summit for high-altitude acclimatization
An ideal summit for high-altitude acclimatization

Charquini sits just underneath the Huayna Potosi massif. It is a great ascent to test your acclimatization and the summit offers amazing views of the Zongo valley, the Altiplano, and Huayna Potosi itself.
Charquini can be combined with Huayna Potosi to form a 4-day itinerary, serving as a perfect acclimatization hike.
We will depart from La Paz early in the morning, enjoying a scenic 1.5-hour drive to the Huayna Potosi base camp area. From there, our trek begins along a beautiful creek fed by the Charquini glacier.
Once we reach the edge of the glacier, we will strap on our gear for a scenic 2-to-3-hour climb to the summit (5,390 m / 17,684 ft). While basic mountaineering gear is required to navigate the snow and ice safely, the route is entirely non-technical. After celebrating at the summit, we will retrace our steps back to the vehicle and return to La Paz.
